Revelation Chapter Five
The Scroll and The Lamb
Revelation
is a book to show the majesty of God.
It
is a book that is about three things:
1.
Preparation
2.
Prophecy
3.
Power
The First
Three Chapters Are For Preparation.
They prepare us for the way
that we should live. They are to keep us ever vigilant. If you were to go back
to Matt 24 & 25 and remove them and place them right after chapter Three of
Revelation they fit very nicely. They are preparing us for what we are to do
for God in the time that he has given to us here on earth.
The Book Of Revelation Is For Prophecy.
- It is to prophesy of things to come.
- It is to get us ready and inform us that these things will come to pass.
- We should take our work seriously.
Third It Shows Us The Power.
- It shows us the power of God.
- It shows the power of Jesus Christ.
- It shows us the power of the Holy Spirit
Chapter Four shows the power of God
- It shows his throne room
- It shows that He is all powerful.
- It shows that He is far above any other king or god.
- He is the creator and the compassionate God that has given us eternal life in Jesus.
Chapter
Five Shows Us The Power Of Jesus
Revelation
5:1-5
Then I saw in the right hand of him who
sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven
seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break
the seals and open the scroll?” But no one in heaven or on earth or under the
earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no
one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the
elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root
of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
It Shows Us The Power Of The Lamb
Revelation 5:6-10
Then
I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four
living creatures and the elders. He
had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took
the scroll from the right hand
of him who sat on the throne.
And
when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each
one had a harp and they were holding
golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
And
they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and
with your blood you purchased men for
God from every tribe and language and people and
nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the
earth.”
It Shows That He Alone Is Worthy
Revelation 5:11-14
Then
I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten
thousand. They encircled the
throne and the living creatures and the elders.
In
a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive
power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Then
I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in
them, singing: “To him who sits on
the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever!”
The
four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
He
does not prostrate Himself to the Father, as do the creatures and the elders.
He
is worthy to receive glory and honor and power.
He
is The Creator
He is the image of the
invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were
created: things in heaven and on
earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
He is before
all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the
body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so
that in everything he might have the supremacy.
For
God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to
himself all things, whether things
on earth or things in heaven, by making peace
through his blood, shed on the cross.
John 1:1-5 – In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was
with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him
nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the
light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not
understood it.
No Matter What It Looks Like In
The World God Is In Control
- Jesus is all powerful.
- He is not surprised by what is going on in the world
- However, he does not expect us to remain silent. He has given us a voice.
- Historically it has been only one crying in the wilderness while others sit back.
- But we have the power of God within us to cry out against injustice.
- God has given us a voice through the freedoms we enjoy in this country. But if we do not begin to use that voice we will be shut down.
- Jesus will bring us through this if we have faith in him.
- He will make us grow during this time of struggle if we will only trust him.
