Freedom Can Only Be Given Up By Those Who Possess It.
Freedom is a power from within. That is why the leaders of
the world fear the Bible. When one experiences the freedom that is given by
God, it cannot be taken away. The world leaders know that Christians cannot be
persuaded by propaganda. Once the leadership strays from the truth of God,
Christians choose God.
At this moment perhaps you are wondering if you should
simply give in to the oppression of a government. The answer to that question
is that one should do whatever is legally available to him or her to ensure he
or she will remain free. Nevertheless, if one finds him or herself in the
predicament of tyranny, Paul says to be content at whatever state you are in
(Philippians 4:11). That does not mean one should give up his or her freedom in
Christ. It means that the Believer knows that he is free in Christ and will
live for eternity in that freedom.
It also means that one should use whatever legal means to
preserve one’s own freedom just as was in the case of Paul. Paul used the legal
means available to him by Roman law to appeal to take his case to Caesar. He
was content at his current circumstance, but that did not keep him from
pursuing another circumstance according to the laws of God as well as the laws
of the day.
Tyranny should always be confronted. However, it must be
understood that standing up does not come without a price. John the Baptist
knew of the possible consequences for standing up against the king;
nevertheless, he stood anyway.
