Free
Indeed
John
8:34-36 says, “Jesus replied, ‘I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a
slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son
belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed’.”
Those
who willingly seek sin are slaves to sin. Everyone has to serve somebody. Bob
Dylan sang, “It might be the devil and it might be the Lord, but you’re gonna
have to serve somebody.”
Everyone
serves somebody. Ironically, even those who think they serve only themselves
serve the devil. They are doing his bidding by denying the calling placed on
them by God to form relationships in Jesus’ name and spread the gospel.
The
person who allows him or herself to be guided by God experiences true freedom.
Free from addictions and other encumbrances, the believer can see clear headed
as he or she goes. That does not mean that there will not be struggles, but it
does mean that the believer has someone to turn to with the power to help
overcome the struggle.
God is
in the helping business. He hears you and answers you. The answer is not always
the one wanted by the believer, but it is always the one that is going to do
the most good in the long run. How do I know that? Through faith in God! He has
told me through His Word that He has my best interests at heart. Therefore, I
know that He will do nothing to harm me.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:7:
“Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find; knock and
the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he
who seeks finds; and to him who
knocks, the door will be opened.”
“Which of you, if his son asks for
bread, will give him a stone? Or if
he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you
are evil, know how to give good
gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him?”
You are free to ask
God for what you need. He hears those in whom He has called.
